The Little Princess Trust now accepts Afro hair donations
We’re super-excited to learn that the Little Princess Trust has announced they can now accept Afro and mixed-race hair donations to create wigs for young cancer sufferers and children who experience the devasting effects of hair loss.
The Little Princess Trust has been exploring ways to create Afro-style wigs using hair donations from curlies across the country, and have developed a new technique using wefts of Afro hair which are sewn into the wig base.
As hairstylists, we all understand the important part that our hair plays in building confidence and feeling good about ourselves. The trauma of coping with hair loss alongside a cancer diagnosis is something that no young person should have to face.
The welcome news that donations of mixed-race and Afro hair can now be accepted by the Little Princess Trust has delighted us all at The Muse Salon, and we will be sharing this information with all of our customers who want to ‘brave the shave’ so that they will be able to donate their locks to this extremely good cause.
Our very own Erica Liburd shaved her hair over seven years ago and due to the restrictions on Afro hair donations was unable to donate. Erica commented: “I’m thrilled that the Little Princess Trust has found a way to utilise Afro and mixed-race hair to create wigs for deserving young people.
“Natural Afro hair with its curly, coiled structure can be challenging to make into a wig, but the Little Princess Trust’s research has reaped results and we will be sharing the news with all our customers to raise awareness.”
As well as helping to raise awareness of the new initiative, we’ve also been expanding our wig services at the salon, as more of our customers are looking to change their look and embrace the new styles that a wig can bring.
Wigs allow our clients to get a brand-new look without the commitment of a complete restyle, allowing them to experiment with colour and length with ease. Wigs can also protect natural hair and encourage regrowth, giving frazzled locks a break from the heat damage caused by blow-drying and styling tools.
Our motto is that ‘you can never have a bad hair day’ when you’re wearing a wig — and to ensure more ‘happy hair days’ for our clients, we’ve welcomed experienced extension technician and wig maker, Anne, to our team.
Specialising in braiding, weave installation and the creation of custom wigs, Anne also offers a range of wig maintenance services including wash and blow-dries and wig colouring.
If we’ve convinced you that a wig is the right style direction for you, book an appointment with Anne to discuss the first step of your wig journey.
And if the Little Princess Trust’s news has inspired you to do an amazing thing for a very worthy cause, then we’d be delighted to welcome you to our friendly salon for your big shave!
